“It was pretty unexpected for me. I’d planned to be in the breakaway to help Daan Hoole in the final stretch, but I found myself in the leading group after the last climb and managed to hang on. I knew Tim Wellens was focused on the overall standings and would take most of the turns. I took a few turns at the front before focusing on the final sprint, knowing that I was faster than him. I think all my other wins as a pro have been sprint victories, so it’s nice to win thanks to a breakaway.”
