" It's a really special feeling

"The goal was to be in the breakaway. I had marked this stage since the start of Giro we had discussed it with the team managers over the last few days. I was in the morning breakaway, so the goal was achieved, but we were caught up. I was able to break away again with a good group and managed to pace myself throughout the day. With 30 kilometers to go, I attacked on the descent. It was a little crazy, but that's why they call me 'the Joker'. Arturas (Kasputis) in the car encouraged me and gave me the right information to lead me to victory. It's great, we've won two stages here, and we're still in the overall standings with Ben (O'Connor) in fourth place. Tomorrow, the race passes by my house, and with today's victory, it's a really special feeling."

A first stage and an eventful sprint finish, with a crash in the final meters bringing down our rider Gautherat. The medical report is reassuring, and he will be back in the race tomorrow.
