«I won twice three weeks ago in the Coupe de France, and now I'm competing in a WorldTour race where the level is completely different, and I've managed to win too, which is fantastic. I tried to attack for the first time at 1,500 metres, but the peloton didn't let me go, they immediately came after me. So I decided to sit up and wait for the sprint. Then the teamwork was incredible. Bruno (Armirail) came to get me and put me back in position at 700 metres, and he did the work until 200 metres. When I saw that the gap was starting to close, I launched my sprint and it worked! It's so great!»

Felix Gall crashes in the final
The only downside was that team leader Felix Gall fell during the final stretch leading to Cambo-les-Bains. The roads were made slippery by rain at the end of the stage. Felix was able to quickly get back on the road with the help of Nans Peters, who gave him his bicycle.

The figure
Valentin Retailleau secured a top 10 finish in the WorldTour with an impressive seventh place at the end of the second stage of the Tour of the Basque Country. Bruno Armirail took ninth place in the general classification, 24 seconds behind the leader, Primoz Roglic. With his victory, Paul also climbed to 11th place in the general classification.
