Aurélien Paret-Peintre
«I am proud of what I have achieved.»
«I am really proud of what I have achieved in this Giro d'Italia. It is hugely satisfying to have been able to raise my arms in victory in a Grand Tour. I have fulfilled my objective with a good place in the overall classification. The whole AG2R CITROËN team was in the right frame of mind. We took risks during these three weeks of racing and played an active role, like in the breakaway with my brother Valentin on stage 16. That day, even though I lost time to the other favourites, I took control of my own destiny. I arrive in Rome with no regrets. My legs felt good during these three weeks, which gives me the appetite to continue this momentum throughout the season.»
Didier Jannel
«A more than positive outcome»
«We came to this Giro d'Italia with the ambition of winning a stage and achieving the best possible overall classification. We achieved this with Aurélien Paret-Peintre. His success on stage 4 boosted the confidence of the whole team and created a great dynamic around him. I want to highlight the commitment of all the riders and staff during the three weeks, who never let up. For three weeks, the AG2R CITROËN team took an offensive approach, increasing its presence in the breakaways. We were bold and opportunistic, and it paid off. We also finished fifth in the team classification, our best result since 2018. This proves what a great Giro we had as a team. We had a young team at the start with riders competing in their first Grand Tour, but we never felt inferior. Aurélien was an exemplary leader and knew how to rally the team around him. The overall result is more than positive.»
