Bob Jungels: «You must always believe in yourself»
«I'm happy to have finished this Tour de France without illness or problems and to be twelfth in the overall classification with a stage victory to boot. It was a Tour de France with no downtime, no moments of respite. You couldn't crack and had to fight. I'll remember the Châtel stage and that important victory after everything I'd been through. It wasn't easy to take on the role of leader after Ben O'Connor withdrew, but I fought hard to rise to the challenge. I then tried to take my chance and break away, as I did in the Mende stage, but I didn't succeed.
A year ago, I was commentating on the final time trial on Radio Télé Luxembourg, just a few days after undergoing surgery. It's great to be here. It's a relief and it shows that you should always believe in yourself. That's the most important thing in life.
The number: 21
Bob Jungels' victory in Châtel during the ninth stage of the Tour de France was the team's 21st Tour de France win in its history.
«With Bob's victory in Châtel, following the longest solo breakaway in the Tour since 2006, Bob perfectly lived up to expectations.
In addition to this magnificent success, Bob Jungels fought hard every day to maintain his 12th place in the overall standings. He did the team proud by taking on the role of leader. He never gave up. Considering all our misadventures, we can be satisfied with the performance of our three riders in the race to Paris. Without its best climbers, the AG2R CITROËN team was unable to influence the race as it had hoped, but the overall result is positive,» said Vincent Lavenu, general manager of the AG2R CITROËN team.
