Bastien Tronchon: «I can't believe it.»

«I can't believe it. Words are hard to find. It's an incredible day.
I took the lead with the aim of starting the climb up Picon Blanco with as much of a head start as possible. I managed my climb without worrying about the others and managed to overtake the overall favourites just before the top.
The descent was very technical, but I hung on until the finish line behind Pavel Sivakov.
I have been making steady progress over the past few years and I am delighted to be taking part in my first race as a professional trainee.
I hope to continue to deliver what the team expects of me for the rest of the season. [/su_quote] [su_quote cite=Vincent Lavenu]

Vincent Lavenu: «A very pleasant surprise»

«It's a wonderful surprise. I've known Bastien very well since he was a child. He spent his early years cycling at the Motte Servolex Cycling Club, where our racing department is based. He then joined our training programme in 2019, moving through the AG2R CITROËN U19 team and now the AG2R CITROËN U23 team since 2021.
He's a very talented lad. In the final, I knew it was possible. Bastien knows how to win races, and he's shown that in amateur competitions over the last two seasons.
After yesterday's difficult day for the team, with Damien Touzé and Marc Sarreau crashing and Clément Berthet injured, it is a huge pleasure to see him raise his arms in victory today.
The best way to win races is to break away, and this victory is a fine example to follow.

The figure

7

Bastien Tronchon's victory is the seventh win for the AG2R CITROËN team this season.
This is the team's 499th victory since its creation in 1992.
The Vuelta a Burgos is Bastien Tronchon's first professional race as a trainee.
The 20-year-old rider was a member of the AG2R CITROËN U19 team from 2019 to 2020 and has been a member of the AG2R CITROËN U23 team since 2021.
He has just completed his second year of a Bachelor's degree in Sports Science at the University of Savoie Mont-Blanc in Bourget-du-Lac (73).
Bastien Tronchon is the first trainee from the AG2R CITROËN team to win since Jaan Kirsipuu, winner of the first stage of Paris-Bourges in 1992.
