André Vendrame

« It's a really special feeling. »

«The goal was to be in the breakaway. I had marked this stage since the start of the Giro and we had discussed it with the team managers over the last few days. I was in the morning breakaway, so the goal was achieved, but we were caught up. I was able to get back out with a good group and managed my effort throughout the day. With 30 kilometres to go, I attacked on the descent. It was a bit crazy, but that's why they call me «the Joker». Arturas (Kasputis) in the car encouraged me and gave me the right information to lead me to victory. It's great, we've won two stages here and we're still in contention overall with Ben (O'Connor) in fourth place. Tomorrow, the race passes close to home, and with today's victory, it's a really special feeling.»

The information

Benoît Cosnefroy still leading the Boucles de la Mayenne

A first stage and an eventful sprint finish, with a crash in the final metres bringing down our rider Pierre Gautherat. The medical report is reassuring, and he will be back in the race tomorrow. Dorian Godon and Benoît Cosnefroy finished just outside the top 10, but the latter remains the leader of the Boucles de la Mayenne.

The figure

Like the team's second victory in this edition of the Giro d'Italia. A historic first, as the team had never achieved such a performance in the Giro before.
