Cyril Dessel

«A winning spirit throughout the week»

«We rose to the challenge! On the one hand, we positioned Bastien, our designated leader, and on the other hand, we worked collectively, with everyone fulfilling their role during this week of racing. Paul (Lapeira), as road captain, played an important role in managing the teamwork between his teammates, Noa (Isidore), who was competing in his first WorldTour race, Dorian (Godon), who finished in the top 10 in the sprint on the fourth stage, Geoffrey (Bouchard), who slipped into the breakaways. In short, it was a great week of racing around our leader. Everyone put in a great effort and Bastien took on the role of leader, which was new to him. He showed great things throughout the week, particularly at Willunga Hill. I would like to salute the winning spirit of the riders throughout the week. Well done to them.»

Bastien Tronchon

«It was a big goal for me.»

«Taking on a leadership role in the WorldTour, in a stage race, was no small feat. It's a sign of the team's confidence in me and it was a big goal for me. Throughout the preparation, I made sure to do everything right. The whole week went well with the team, and I owe them a lot. We had a very strong team, they were there for me, every step of the way, all week, and I think it's largely thanks to them that I achieved a good result. My puncheur profile suits the Tour Down Under. The top 10 goal was ambitious, but far from unattainable. The level in the WorldTour is very high, as we've seen again this year, with a strong field. I'm ahead of quite a few riders who can be intimidating at the start of a race, which I'm quite proud of. It will give me confidence for the start of the season.»

The figure

As for Bastien Tronchon's place in the Tour Down Under general classification, after Ben O'Connor's sixth place in 2023, you have to go back to 2009 and Martin Elmiger's fourth place to find a better result for the team.
